SPARC is a full-service drop-in center for women, located in Southwest Baltimore.
SPARC's mission is to enhance the well-being of women who sell sex by providing safe and compassionate health, social, and legal services at no cost.
The philosophy of SPARC is rooted in the principles of harm reduction, which utilize strategies that aim to reduce the harms of drug use and sex work.
We offer a range of on-site clinical (e.g., HIV/STI testing and counseling, PrEP, reproductive health, drug treatment), behavioral (e.g., mental health), and structural (e.g., legal aid, housing referrals) services to women. SPARC provides a safe place for women to: relax; access health, legal, and support services; share experiences with other women; and engage in community development and empowerment activities. We primarily serve women living in the neighborhoods of southwest Baltimore, including Pigtown, Cherry Hill, Brooklyn, and Carroll Park, but are happy to accommodate anyone seeking services. SPARC is welcoming to all non-men identifying individuals.
On-site service providers address the needs of individuals in a convenient, safe, and non-stigmatizing environment, reducing the need for outside referrals to increase the likelihood of continued engagement and service utilization at SPARC. We aim to treat all of our guests with the utmost dignity and respect, so that they feel safe and empowered when accessing services in our space.
SPARC has also developed a comprehensive outreach program, through which we seek to serve the community during hours when SPARC is not open, primarily at night. Our trained outreach workers conduct street- and venue-based outreach to promote the use of the Center, distribute supplies, and facilitate community engagement.
